Amakhosi Safari Lodge

The AmaZulu Private Game Reserve is home to AmaKhosi Safari Lodge, situated in the heart of what was once the great Kingdom of the Zulu in northern KwaZulu-Natal, near Swaziland. Situated on the banks of the Mkuze River in the 12 000ha Private Game Reserve, it is ideally located in a blend of savannah, wetlands and mountains. AmaKhosi is home to quality Big Five game viewing, 15 different species of antelope as well as over 400 bird species.

It is also an area where cheetahs are prolific. Here true happiness lies in the lap of Mother Nature and royal treatment is part of each day.

Accommodation and Cuisine: 6 luxurious river suites and 2 honeymoon suites encapsulate the heartbeat of the bush in their design and décor. Each suite is blessed with ceiling-high windows that overlook the caressing river. All suites have air conditioning and a private lounge, and the bathroom has a bath for two – a romantic setting for a newlywed couple.

Stroll out on your private deck in your comfy bathrobe, and take in the sites of the Mkuze River, with a drink from your fully-stocked mini bar, or a mug of warm coffee or tea. In completing the Royal Kingdom experience, bridal couples embark on the matrimonial journey of a lifetime. Our honeymoon suites are named Umntwana, which in Zulu means “a child of royalty”. The suites have made this ‘private kingdom’, set on the banks of the Mkuze River, an even more idyllic location for newlyweds – or even for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and rekindle their romance.

In addition to their size, a more open-plan design sets them apart from the regular suites and an extra spacious deck (with a private plunge pool and a hammock overlooking the river) truly earmarks these suites as the ‘Royal Dwellings’. Cuisine is a combination of African style and European flair, freshly prepared by the Chef. Brunch comprises an extensive buffet of cold and hot selection with only the freshest of fruits, juices and selection of cheeses. High tea (late lunch) is traditionally taken on the verandah and is no small affair with offerings of homemade meaty bites, vegetable platters, pates, quiches, jams and breads.

In true style, the evenings see guests enjoying a 3-course meal. Activities: The lodge has a passion for wildlife and you are invited to partake in game drives, frogging safaris, birding, and newly introduced fishing safaris, as well as to take in the natural beauty of the surroundings on a romantic honeymoon safari. Relax and unwind, or compliment your knowledge with teachings of the traditional Zulu heritage.
